Travel Checklist
CBU Employees – It’s a global world that demands travel to locations worldwide. Refer to the checklist below any time that you have need to travel or work off-campus nationally or internationally.
1. Working off-campus (but within Canada):
- Review CBU policy with respect to use of privately owned vehicles [link to finance policy]
- ensure student assistants who work for you have received appropriate occupational health and safety training (check with Safety Officer if unsure)
- if you are working* at another Employer’s workplace outside of Nova Scotia, you will need proof of Workers Compensation coverage. Human Resources is able to obtain a letter of verification from Workers’ Compensation that you may take with you. (Provide at least one month’s notice).
*’Work’, for a possible Workers’ Compensation claim, would include the performance of tasks such as participating in hands-on work in another University’s lab, or collecting samples from another Employer’s site. Activities such as accessing research materials in another University’s Library, or presenting at a conference are not considered ‘work’ in this situation.
2. In addition, when working outside Canada
- Review the Foreign Affairs web page to determine risk level of the country or region of intended travel and CBU’s benefits page
- Notify Human Resources of intended travel (to arrange for continuation of benefits, if necessary) by filling out the form
- Review the entry requirements for your intended country to ensure proper visa(s) are obtained (visit, and/or work)
- Determine if entry visas are required for any stop-points during travel
- Verify that all required travel documents are up-to-date
- Verify that all required or recommended inoculations are up-to-date
Contact Human Resources if you require assistance with benefits arrangements
