Requirements

CBU invites applications for a full-time position in the Library at the rank of Librarian I to commence August 2016.

Reporting to the Dean of the Library and Multicultural Learning, the successful candidate will offer multi-disciplinary reference services and information literacy instruction as well as provide collection development and liaison with academic departments (primarily education, humanities and social sciences, and Unama’ki College). The working schedule includes one evening per week and one Sunday per month.

Responsibilities

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a MLIS from an ALA accredited institution with preference being given to candidates with a degree, at a Master’s level, in an Arts & Social Science related field.  A minimum of 1 year of experience as a subject librarian in an academic library is required.  

 – Demonstrated ability to teach effectively and work collaboratively in an academic environment.

–  Demonstrated understanding of scholarly publishing, including Open Access publishing and related issues

–  A high level of competence with electronic information sources and technologies

The union affiliation of this position is with the Cape Breton University Faculty Association.
