The Department of Communities & Connections in the School of Arts & Social Sciences at CBU invites applications for a full-time position in Communication at the rank of Laboratory Instructor to commence August 2016.

Responsibilities

The Dr. Mary A. Lynch Communication Lab is an experiential learning environment that focuses on the Communication Department’s philosophy to develop students cognitively, affectively, and behaviorally. The successful candidate will be responsible for laboratory preparation and instruction for the following courses: Interpersonal Communication, Public Communication, and Issues in Media Studies. The Lab Instructor will facilitate experiential learning labs, conduct ongoing assessment of students’ performance, engage in research to update and revise lesson plans including experiential learning activities, assist the Lab Coordinator in carrying out the day-to-day administrative duties associated with the Communication Lab, create end-of-term lab reports to be submitted to the Lab Coordinator, maintain lab equipment, and other duties as a member of the Department of Communities & Connections in the School of Arts & Social Sciences.

Applicants should have a minimum of a BA/BACS with a Major in Communication although preference will be given to candidates with a MA degree in Communication. Applicants must have at least three years’ experience facilitating experiential learning labs and additional related experience would be an asset. Candidates with experience working with technology, administrative experience, demonstrated research abilities, creativity, organizational abilities, and leadership skills will be ranked highly. Knowledge of multimedia based teaching strategies and experience with web design and social media is considered an asset. Reporting to the Communication Lab Coordinator and Department Chair, the successful candidate will work closely with the Coordinator, other department members, the Communication Lab Peer Facilitators, and all lab students. Therefore, collegiality and teamwork are essential requirements.
