To Capture Light Comes to CBU Boardmore Playhouse

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

To Capture Light, a new work from Mary-Colin Chisholm, is coming to the CBU Boardmore Playhouse, October 22-23.  Produced by Mulgrave Road Theatre, in conjunction with Luna Sea Theatre, To Capture Light is part of an ongoing commitment by CBU to bring professional theatre to local audiences.

Under the direction of Mary Vingoe, To Capture Light tells a story based on the life of painter Frances Jones Bannerman, a young woman from Nova Scotia who steps into the artistic whirlwind of Paris during the tumultuous times of the Impressionists. Accompanied by her sister Alice, an aspiring novelist, the play takes an imaginary journey as the two young women are swept up in a world where Art mattered; a brushstroke could ignite a revolution and women were determinedly pushing their way into a man's world. The stellar cast includes Mauralea Austin, Mary-Colin Chisholm, Martha Irving and Sherry Smith, portraying a myriad of characters including famous names of the era such as Sarah Bernhardt, Oscar Wilde and Mary Cassatt as well as a montage of well-known male impressionist painters. Designer Ingrid Risk has been joined by Jennifer Coe and Ben Chaisson.

CBU Boardmore Theatre Artistic Director, Todd Hiscock, welcomes the troupe to the Boardmore, “We are very excited to be able to present this wonderful piece. The artists of Luna Sea and Mulgrave Road Theatres are a vibrant and vital part of theatre culture in this province. Bringing their work here and sharing it with our audiences, is important to us as a key component in developing interest in theatre and in cultural industries.”

Tickets are $20 General, $12 Student/Senior and are on sale now. Call the CBU Box Office at 902-563-1652 to reserve. Both shows begin at 7pm.   Following the October 23 performance, the audience is invited to stay for a talkback session with the cast.
