Sydney and area offer many locally owned businesses along with national and internationally owned chain stores. You’ll find all that you’re looking for.

Mayflower Mall is on the same road as CBU. It has over 70 stores and services – everything from books to clothing to electronics and a food court. Not far from the mall are other large stores including Canadian Tire, Walmart, and Home Depot.

Glace Bay – on the highway heading into Glace Bay from CBU there are several grocery stores, and other outlets for shopping.

Welton Street This string of stores includes many fast food franchises, along with coffee shops, a bakery and grocery store.

Downtown Sydney – Lots of shops including clothing boutiques, shoe store, used book store, and souvenirs.

Cape Breton Farmer’s Market Every Saturday morning 8:30 -1pm farmers, crafters and other merchants offer their homemade wares for sale. From local beef to sushi to tomatoes to pastries – choices abound. With coffee and music, the social morning is a terrific way to experience Cape Breton’s diversity and meet many new people. 340 Keltic Drive

King’s Road in Sydney River – Grocery stores, more fast food chains, large pharmacy

Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design – If you are on the hunt for pure Cape Breton merchandise, look no further. Highlighting some of Cape Breton’s best artists, you will find pottery, original paintings, jewelry, gift cards and much more. This space also doubles as the only art gallery in Sydney’s downtown.

Allegro Grill and Deli – On Charlotte Street in downtown Sydney, offers tasty fast lunches and evening dining, featuring local ingredients where possible.

Flavor – Just off Charlotte on Pitt Street this hopping place provides a great vibe along with great food.

Blackspoon Bistro – In North Sydney, this small restaurant serves up fine dining at reasonable prices for lunch and supper.

Kiji’s – In the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre, they offer daily buffets, along with a regular menu options.

Wentworth Perk – Sydney’s newest cafe, it’s across the street from its namesake – Wentworth Park. Along with delectable hot drinks, they offer lunches and baked treats. They also host live acoustic music several nights a week.

Trio – Found in the Cambridge Suites Hotel on the Esplande in Sydney – great for lunch or evening meals.

Bean Bank Cafe – A coffeeshop on Charlotte Street with light lunches and other baked goods.

Crown and Moose – Found in the Delta Hotel on the Esplanade in Sydney, this is another option for lunch or evening meals. And they have live music on the weekends.
