Language Requirements

Take the first step to an exceptional education 

Cape Breton University as strong relationships with several english language partners including,  International Centre EAP, English School of Canada (ESC), EC English Language School and ILAC. If your first language is not English, you will need to provide documentation to show that CBU’s English language proficiency requirements have been met. See the requirements below. 

To have professors who are willing to talk to you and can meet with you on a daily or weekly basis is very helpful. In class, I felt comfortable raising my hand to ask a question and to form discussions with peers and my professors.

*All IELTS and TOEFL scores should be sent to admissions_documents@cbu.ca directly from the testing language body (Eg. IELTS or TOEFL). Language scores that have been sent by students will not be accepted.

English Proficiency Exemption 

If you have completed at least two years in a secondary school (as recognized by CBU) where English is the primary language of instruction, you do not require a language score. Official documentation, however, is needed.

If you have completed at least 30 credit hours (or equivalent) at a post-secondary institution (as recognized by CBU) where English is the primary language of instruction, you do not require a language score. Official documentation is required.
