About the Boardmore

The Boardmore Playhouse is the centre for theatre arts at Cape Breton University. The Playhouse is fully equipped for theatrical and live music productions and has state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems. The seating capacity is 337.

The Cape Breton University Dramagroup is open to students and community members. For more than 40 years, drama has played a significant role in Cape Breton University's contribution to Cape Breton's cultural climate. During the past quarter century the Dramagroup's Season of Plays has produced more than 600 scripts, many of them original and receiving their premiere at Cape Breton University.

Nationally renowned playwrights from Cape Breton like Bryden MacDonald and Daniel McIvor have had their work produced at Cape Breton University. Cape Breton University has developed a Theatre Arts Certificate program as a result of the growing interest in theatre on the Island and the career opportunities it can provide.
