Maureen Murrin, MBA (CED) ’06

Maureen works with the provincial government of Newfoundland and Labrador in the Rural Secretariat as a Policy, Planning and Research Analyst. Maureen was a proud member of the CAPERS women’s basketball team at CBU, and is still involved in the sport today through coaching and refereeing. In fact, Maureen returned to CBU last year to lend a hand as an assistant coach for the CAPERS women’s team. Thanks Maureen!

"Representing CBU as a student and an athlete was one of the most rewarding experiences … I have so many memories and experiences that I will cherish for life."

Cheryl Carver BBA’88

Cheryl has worked for over eighteen years as a HR professional, and currently works in this field at the University of Saskatchewan. She recently achieved the designation of Certified Human Resources Professional (C.H.R.P.). In her spare time, Cheryl volunteers with Junior Achievement, Big Sisters, Tamara’s House in Saskatoon, YWCA, and University Alumni Associations.

“The sense of community, small class size, and personalized attention from a group of very talented and dedicated faculty was instrumental in guiding my career choices.  I will always have very fond memories of my years at CBU.”

Bradley Kirby BACS ’00

Bradley pursued an M.A. Ed at St. Francis Xavier University, and is currently a university lecturer in South Korea. Bradley believes the BACS program allowed him to fulfill his education goals by motivating him to pursue graduate studies.

“CBU has played a huge role in enabling me to make dreams become reality. It was the right place for me. The campus wasn’t too hectic like typical university campuses. I would, and have, recommended CBU to others without hesitation.”

Derek Johnson Dip. EET, BTI ’95

Derek is a Chemical Lab Supervisor with Atlantic Minerals Limited in NFLD. He is an avid golfer and enjoys curling and snowshoeing.

“CBU gave me the educational framework to establish a career in my home province of Newfoundland and Labrador.  There are many fond memories of the time I spent at CBU.  The fun times had, and great people met at Mac Res., stand out as I look back.  It is where I met my future wife, Diane Murphy (CBU ‘94).”

Vanessa MacArthur BACS ’98

Vanessa currently works as a Citizen Services Officer with Service Canada. Vanessa has also recorded and released her first CD, MacArthur Drive, with which she toured in Scotland in 2009.  Vanessa notes that her days spent at CBU were some of the best in her life.

“University life for a small-town rural girl was a scary thought, but once I arrived, I felt like I was a part of a big family.  The professors were great.  They became involved and truly cared about their students.  You are not just a face in the crowd. I look back on the years I spent at CBU with fond memories and smile, as it played a major part of who I am today!”
