What courses do I need?
From Grade 12: English and Math, and two of Chemistry, Biology or Physics (Biology and Chemistry are recommended) and one other university preparatory course. For regular admission, a minimum average of 65% is required.
Applicants to the Bachelor of Science Nursing program must have an overall average of 80% in Grade 11 courses with a minimum mark of 80% in the two Grade 11 sciences and Grade 11 mathematics
When’s the Deadline to Apply and how do I do it?
February, 28th is the deadline for applications for the September start date. The application form can be filled out online or in hardcopy and mailed to the Student Service Centre at CBU.
What should I expect from this program?
Nursing involves care and service to people. It is an essential health affirming practice based on a unique body of knowledge, competence, and commitment. This program is designed to cultivate the best qualities in future professionals. The practitioner role of the baccalaureate graduate reflects competence in all aspects of nursing, particularly:
- Expert skill in the performance of nursing at a highly individualized level
- Critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making.
- Knowledge is organized sequentially, from simple to complex.
- Each program level builds on the teaching and learning experiences of the previous level.
What do I need to do before beginning the program?
There are several certifications, immunizations and forms that must be completed before beginning the 4 year BSc program.
Each student must complete a:
- Child abuse registry form
- Police Records Check from their local police department or RCMP detachment
- Health Science placement network consent form
Each student must have poof of the following vaccinations:
- MMR
- DTPT & Td boosters
- Rubella Titre
- 2 step mantoux test
- Hepatitis B (highly recommended)
Each student must also be trained in First Aid and CPR (Level “C”) from St. John’s Ambulance or the Red Cross.
Prospective students are advised that the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia (CRNNS) (licensure body for nurses) requires disclosure of criminal activity prior to consideration for registration by the CRNNS. Those deemed a risk to others may not be considered for registration by the CRNNS.
How many students are accepted into the program annually?
As this is a competitive, professional studies program only 70-80 students are accepted annually.
