Internship Program

Interested in working in the heritage field?  Want to add practical, hands-on skills to your undergraduate experience?  Thinking about applying to graduate school?  If so, the Department of History’s internship program may be right for you.

Jointly run by the Department of History, Louisbourg Institute, Cape Breton University, and Parks Canada, the Louisbourg Internship Program provides upper-level undergraduate students at Cape Breton University with an opportunity to conduct independent, original research at Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site.   One Fortress of Louisbourg internship is available for the 2011-12 academic year.

The Department of History also offers an internship opportunity with the Beaton Institute.  Located on the CBU campus, the Beaton Institute is an archive for all things related to Cape Breton’s history and culture.  For additional details about the Beaton internship program see our Terms of Reference.  Three internship positions are available at the Beaton for the 2011-12 academic year.

Read testimonials from students who have participated in the program in previous years.

Applications for the 2011-12 internship program are now being accepted; the deadline is 14 September 2011.
