Dr. Shofiur Rahman is a postdoctoral research assistant Dr. Robert Helleur, Department of Chemistry at Memorial University of Newfoundland, and Dr. Stephanie MacQuarrie at CBU. He is currently visiting CBU and will be working during May 2017 in the MacQuarrie group in the area of analytical chemistry for isolation of low molecular weight compounds from bark and softwood bio-oil and the quality improvement of the residual bio-oil by molecular distillation.

Dr. Shofiur Rahman received his PhD degree in Organic Chemistry, Energy and Material Science from Saga University, Japan in 2007. In 2015, he completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in the Dept. of Chemistry at Memorial University with Drs. Paris Georghiou and Luc Beaulieu on the synthesis of functionalized calixarenes which can be applied to cantilever sensors for the detection of heavy metals in freshwater for the application of environmental monitoring. Before joining Memorial University, he worked at the National Institute for Nanotechnology (NINT), University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. And before coming to Canada, he was a Faculty member at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology, Bangladesh. His research interests are in the area of bio-oil, bio-char, supramolecular chemistry, chemical sensors, organic synthesis and materials sciences. To date, he has published 42 publications in peer-reviewed international journals.
