- Non-thesis students complete seven core graduate courses (21 credits) and three graduate elective courses (3 credits per course).
- Thesis students complete five core graduate courses (3 credits each); two graduate electives (3 credits each), and a thesis (9 credits).

The decision to offer a flexible, fully online MEd. in Sustainability, Creativity and Innovation reflects a commitment by the Department of Education at CBU to the role of higher education in helping to achieve Sustainable Development Goals to 2030.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined 17 goals and 169 associated targets focused on poverty, hunger, equity, the environment, security, and education. Goal #4 calls on all nations to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”.
The targets associated with Goal #4 give emphasis to access, equity, quality, affordability, skills for employment, literacy, and the skills to promote sustainable development – for all levels of education from pre-primary to university and includes both formal and informal approaches to education.
The Department of Education at CBU recognizes the need to develop and implement imaginative responses to the question: How can online, open and flexible learning support sustainable education and the Sustainable Development Goals? The World Education Forum in Incheon, Republic of Korea in May 2015 highlighted the importance of flexible learning pathways and the use of information and communications technologies.
We use Moodle as our Learning Management System to connect all students and instructors in the program. All of our courses are instructor-led and highly interactive, requiring students to participate within a shared online learning space. Interaction is facilitated in both asynchronous and synchronous formats. Students will interact in large and small group activities through discussion forums, wikis, and messaging.
Blackboard Collaborate has been integrated within Moodle to allow for effective synchronous learning activities. Within Collaborate, students and instructors can interact through audio-video conferencing, a shared whiteboard space, shared applications, chat, and breakout rooms. Every Blackboard Collaborate session is recorded and available for playback throughout the duration of the course within Moodle. Students will be required to maintain a presence within the online learning environment, with deliverables (including group work) scheduled throughout the term.
