If you’re like most people, your time at university was fast paced, fun, stressful, intimidating, encouraging, and almost every other adjective you can think of. Overall though, it was gratifying. Walking across the stage on graduation day is a feeling that is hard to describe. Unfortunately, The post-secondary sector isn’t as funded as it could be, and a lot of students who are hoping to get that exact same experience don’t get that opportunity due to lack of financial help. This is where our dedicated and proud alumni can play a big part. The great thing about giving back to your past institution is that you know first-hand what your gift can do. You’ve walked the halls, taken the classes, met the professors, enjoyed the campus and have experienced the impact that receiving a quality education can have. The Globe and Mail reported, “ 27 per cent of 1,018 Canadian postsecondary students polled in a Bank of Montreal online survey cited paying for school as their biggest worry,” in 2012. With your help, students can attend university and gain that foundation that will allow them to thrive in the workforce, contribute to the economy and one day, turn into successful alumni just like you.
There are plenty of ways to give back to your alma matter though, and not all philanthropic efforts have to be monetary. For instance, one of the best ways you can contribute to CBU is to simply recommend it to others who are seeking advice. By speaking highly of your time here, you can turn someone’s opinion around and therefore turn them into a future Caper. Another great method to promote CBU, build brand equity and strengthen the CBU reputation is to promote our alma-mater through donations. Providing a small monthly amount not only shows your dedication to the school that’s provided you with knowledge and skills, but also demonstrates your willingness to help current students get the same quality education, infrastructure and resources that you had during your time at CBU. Giving back to the university helps to produce even higher caliber graduates that can then become the next leaders in their field, whether that is locally or around the world.
Giving back to CBU, in some form, is a great way to stay connected with your university. It provides the opportunity to form new professional and personal relationships and create new career opportunities for future alumni. Providing donations can generate more top-quality graduates ready to take on careers all over the world. As Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
